Action Reseach Plan: Increasing Literacy

Tool 7.1 Action Planning Template
Goal:  Illiteracy is a major problem among our schools, and illiteracy rates are becoming increasingly unacceptable. How can Law Elementary, and ultimately Houston I.S.D, ensure that each child has mastered what they need to know to the point that they can be promoted and can successfully complete the next grade level? How can literacy improve across the district?

  1. This is a good subject to research. I think it is a good idea to get the parents involved and to give them support. Also, it really helps if there is a knowledgeable teacher to bounce ideas off on. Maybe some kind of motivation for the students would help some but I really like your ideas.

  2. Literacy is an issue at almost every school district especially in urban areas. I have taught elementary, middle school and high school and you would not believe how many students I've taught that couldn't read.I think this is an excellent research topic because of the severity of the issue. All school districts could benefit from your action research project. I wish you the best of luck.
